Noticing how dress pockets changed from decorative to useful
I remember when pockets on dresses were just for looks and couldn't hold anything. These days, designers are making them big enough for a phone and keys. It's a practical update I really appreciate.

Watch the cycle come back around. Paige is right about those 18th century pockets being big and useful. Fashion then took a weird turn into fake, tiny pockets that might hold a lipstick if you were lucky. It felt like a punishment for decades. Now we are finally getting real pockets again that can hold a phone and a wallet, and it is about time.

My mom's old jeans from the 90s had pockets so small you could barely fit a house key. I borrowed them once and had to carry my wallet in my hand all day... it was so annoying. She said that was just how women's jeans were made back then, like they didn't expect us to need to carry anything. Sounds familiar given what you're saying about the punishment decades. Now I check pocket depth before I buy anything, and it's a game changer. Funny how something so simple can make such a difference in your day.

18th century gowns often had functional pockets sewn into the side seams. The tiny decorative ones came later.
