My sister told me to add pockets to everything, even dresses. She was right.
She said it after I showed her a skirt design last year. I thought pockets would ruin the line. Made a test version anyway. Used a hidden side seam pocket on a simple cotton dress. The fabric I picked was a light denim from a local shop in Austin. When I wore it out, three different people asked where they could get one. Not for the look, but because of the pockets. It's now the most requested feature in my small line. Anyone else find a simple change made a big difference in what people actually want to buy?

How did we all get tricked into thinking pockets ruin clothes? Your story is the perfect proof. I swear, the second I find a dress with real pockets, I buy it, no question. It's like we've all been quietly desperate for this one simple thing.

Quietly desperate" is the perfect way to put it, @the_morgan. It makes me wonder who actually benefits from no pockets. Is it just to sell us more purses? I had a beautiful skirt that looked fine until you put a phone in the fake pocket seam and it bulged weirdly. But my cheap work pants have deep pockets and lay totally flat. The whole thing feels like a scam.

Totally agree with @the_tessa about the fake pocket scam. I had a pair of trousers that did the same phone bulge thing. Switched to cutting the pocket bag from the same fabric as the lining instead of the main material. It lays totally flat now, even with my keys in there. The change was so small but it fixed everything. People don't even notice the pockets until they use them, and then they're sold.
