My professor in design school told me my color palettes were 'emotionally flat' and to try pulling from a single photo for a whole collection.
I started using a photo of my grandma's faded 1970s kitchen wallpaper for my grad project, and now every piece I make has this weird, specific warmth that people keep asking about.

Oh man, that professor gave you gold. It's not just a color story, it's like you're pulling a whole mood and a memory into your work. That specific warmth people feel is the story itself, it's what makes your stuff feel real and not just put together. Starting from one photo gives you limits that actually make you more creative, not less. You end up with colors you'd never pick on your own that somehow just work together.
