I spent 3 months sewing darts wrong before a tailor corrected me

I was making these blazers for a small collection I wanted to sell at a local shop in Denver. Every single dart I sewed pointed slightly downward instead of toward the bust apex. A tailor at a fabric store finally pointed it out after I complained about the fit. It took me three months to fix my pattern and redo 12 garments. Has anyone else spent way too long doing a basic technique incorrectly?

Ha! @the_margaret and I are in the same "doing it wrong for months" club, apparently.

Spent a full year folding my fitted sheets wrong before a friend showed me the hospital corner trick. I was just folding them into sad little lumps and shoving them in the linen closet. They never fit right on the mattress and I could never figure out why.

That "sad little lumps" bit got me, @the_margaret. I actually read somewhere that most people just ball them up because fitted sheets are basically impossible to fold properly without knowing the trick. Took me a solid six months before my mom showed me the same hospital corner method, and now I can't believe I ever lived without it.
