Switched from standard keg shoes to aluminum sliders for one horse, night and day difference
Got a client last month with a standardbred that was tearing up his fronts every 4 weeks. Tried the usual keg shoes with some clips but he kept losing them. Threw on a set of aluminum sliders with a rocker toe and that horse went from yanking his feet back to standing like a champ. Has anyone else found certain horses just do way better with a lighter shoe even if it costs more?

Oh totally, the lighter shoe thing is real for some horses. I had a patient that was heavy on the inside and kept twisting his kegs off in the mud, swapped him to aluminum sliders and he quit fighting the farrier entirely. It's wild how much a few ounces can change their way of moving, but the cost is definitely worth it when you stop losing shoes every other week.
