Old timer told me to ditch the rasp every 10 horses and I laughed

Been using the same rasp for twice that long for years. Tried swapping it out like he said and my filing time dropped by almost 15 minutes on a full set of four. Anybody else notice a big difference with fresh tools?

Buddy of mine out in Wyoming swore by the same trick, told me he used to fight a rasp for twenty horses before swapping. One weekend I watched him do a full trim on his team with a fresh one and he was done in half the time it usually took me with my old tool. He let me try it after and the thing just bit into the hoof like butter, no pushing hard or anything. Changed my whole mind about replacing tools more often.

Gotta agree with Tyler, them old timers usually have a reason for saying something like that. A fresh bite on a rasp cuts so much cleaner, you really feel the difference in how little effort it takes after you hit that tenth horse. Guess I was just used to fighting my tools instead of letting them do the work.
