Old timer told me to ditch my aluminum shoes for steel on wet roads

A farrier named Bill at a clinic in Ohio said steel shoes grip better on slick pavement and after 3 months of trying it, I've had way fewer horses slipping in the parking lot - has anyone else noticed the same thing?
