Had a tricky draft horse in Boise that wouldn't lift his foot for more than a second

Last month I was working on a big Percheron named Gus who kept slamming his foot down. My old boss told me to try resting the hoof on my thigh instead of holding it up, and it worked like a charm. I could get a solid 5 minutes of rasping done before he'd shift. Anyone else have a good trick for the real heavy pullers?

You sure that's safe for your knee? I'd be worried about him putting his full weight down.

Yeah but he's careful about it, patricia_mason. My knee's been fine so far.

Honestly I'm with king.derek on this one. Being careful counts for a lot. If his knee feels fine, then the method is clearly working. People get way too nervous about every little risk. Sometimes you just have to trust your own body and not overthink it.
