Warning: That electric vehicle hype is missing a huge environmental cost

Tbh, EV batteries need stuff like lithium and cobalt, which are dug up in ways that wreck local environments. Plus, if your power grid runs on fossil fuels, you're just moving the smoke from the tailpipe to the plant. The full process has a big carbon footprint that gets overlooked. We need cleaner energy sources first for EVs to really help.

Actually, I was all for EVs until I learned about the mining and grid problems.

Yeah @the_terry, the mining part really hits hard.

A documentary showed the cobalt mining conditions, and it was pretty grim. The environmental cost happens long before the car hits the road. That side of the industry needs more attention.
