My uncle tried that once with a camping stove. The lid basically welded itself to the picnic table. We had to cut it out with a saw.

Come on, how bad could it be? It's not like the whole table melts into a puddle. Probably just a weird dent and some plastic smell.

Dude, I learned this lesson the hard way at a family bbq last summer lol. Someone left a grill cover on one of those cheap plastic folding tables and it sank right through like a ghost. Left this perfect circle of melted plastic that looked like a cartoon hole. We spent like twenty minutes trying to peel it off and just made it worse. Now I'm paranoid anytime someone sets anything hot near plastic lol.
