Serious question, does that "wait 30 minutes after eating before swimming" thing hold any water?

I was at a pool party in Nashville last weekend and my buddy jumped in right after a burger and nothing happened. My grandma swore by that rule but I'm starting to think it's just something parents made up to get a break from chasing kids around the pool. Has anyone actually seen someone get cramps from swimming on a full stomach?

Haha, same here! My grandma acted like jumping in after a hot dog would literally kill you, but I've done it plenty of times and been totally fine.

RIGHT?! I swear my grandma acted like it was a life or death rule from God himself.

My grandpa was the exact opposite. He'd throw a hot dog in the pool, yell "last one in gets the soggy bun!" and cannonball in after it himself. I'm not saying he was right, just that I grew up thinking it was normal. But now that I have a pool, I actually get the rule a little. It's not the hot dog itself that bothers me, it's the greasy ring it leaves floating on the surface. I've had to fish out more than one hot dog that broke apart and left those little bits of fat and mustard everywhere. So I'll still grab one with a pool net if someone drops it, but I am not jumping in after it without a clean-up plan.
