I just wasted $40 on those 'detox' foot pads that are supposed to pull out toxins overnight.

My cousin bought a whole box of those last year. She showed me the dark brown gunk they left behind, totally convinced it was heavy metals. I had to gently explain it's just the pad reacting with sweat. That stuff preys on people wanting a quick fix.

The 2018 study in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health found zero evidence of heavy metal detox through foot pads. It's a chemical reaction with moisture, not a medical treatment. These companies bank on that visual trick being more powerful than actual science.

Question whether it's really worth getting worked up about though. I mean, sure it's a scam but it's a $40 scam, not a life-ruining one. People blow way more on dumber stuff every day (like fancy water or crystal healing).
