I always heard you could fix a slow drain with just hot water and vinegar...

My kitchen sink took 45 minutes to drain last week, so I tried that old trick for over an hour. It didn't budge, and I ended up needing a proper drain snake to clear a solid clog of grease and food. Is there any truth to the vinegar method, or is it just a total myth?

My plumber buddy told me the vinegar trick only works on minor mineral buildup from hard water. For any actual clog from grease or food, you need mechanical action like a snake or plunger. It's basically a waste of time for kitchen sinks.

Tried the vinegar thing on my own bathroom sink once, felt like a genius for about twenty minutes. Turns out I was just slowly making a salad dressing for the hairball stuck in the pipe. It works okay for a little bit of soap scum maybe, but a real clog just laughs at it.

What did you end up using to clear that hairball clog?
