Vent: Worst Tuesday I've had in years at the community garden
Someone dumped a full bag of concrete mix into the compost bin on Monday night. Now the whole pile is ruined and we have to start over from scratch. Has anyone else dealt with vandalism like this at their local garden?

Read a local news article last week about a community garden that had someone dump motor oil in their raised beds. They had to pull out all the soil and replace it. Cost them over 500 dollars and months of volunteer hours. People just don't get how much work goes into keeping these places going. Maybe set up a cheap camera or ask neighbors to keep an eye out after dark.

Was that the one up in Arlington actually? I thought I read something similar but it was paint thinner they dumped, not motor oil. Either way, yeah cameras are a good call... cheap ones from Wyze are like 25 bucks and work fine.

And it's not just gardens either, right? Seems like everywhere you look people just have zero respect for anything that takes effort to build up. I've seen it at playgrounds, at little free libraries, even at those tiny plant swaps people set up on their front lawns. Some folks see something nice and their first thought is to wreck it. Makes you wonder what goes through someone's head when they decide to dump oil on a garden. Like they must know it's wrong or they wouldn't be doing it at night. Anyway, cameras are probably your best bet for now, but it still stinks that you even have to think about that.
