My brother insisted I call the city about a sidewalk crack on 41st St
He said they'd fix it fast, but it took the city crew 8 months to finally come out. Now I'm wondering if it's better to just report stuff and wait, or try to fix small things yourself. What's your go-to move for neighborhood issues like this?

Honestly, the timeline depends on how your city tracks complaints. In my town, reporting the same issue through multiple channels, like the 311 app and a direct email to the council member, sometimes bumps it up the list. It creates a paper trail they can't ignore as easily. For a sidewalk crack, I'd still report it because a DIY fix could open you up to liability if someone trips on your patch job later.

Ugh, the liability point is so true and frustrating.

But is a paper trail really that big of deal for a crack? Feels like they have bigger problems to fix first.
