Almost got locked out of my storage unit on Broadway last week

I keep a few extra tools and some furniture at that Storage King on Broadway. Last Thursday I went to grab my winter gear and the keypad for the gate was showing an error code I had never seen before. The office was already closed at 6 PM so I could not get help. I was stuck inside for like 25 minutes until a guy with a code from the 24 hour access list let me out. Now I always check the gate before I go in and I saved the emergency number to my phone. Has anyone else had trouble with those keypads at Broadway Storage or am I just unlucky?

Oh man, that is exactly the kind of thing that would happen to me! I had a similar scare at that same Storage King on Broadway a couple months back. The keypad was acting all glitchy and it took three tries to get the gate to open when I was leaving, I thought I was going to be stuck there overnight honestly. I ended up calling their main office the next day and the manager told me it's a known issue with those older keypads in the rain or cold weather. Now I always test the gate before I walk all the way back to my unit, I learned my lesson the hard way for sure.

And here I thought I was the only one smart enough to get trapped in a storage unit parking lot. Now I make a habit of walking up and pressing the button on the gate before I even grab my stuff, like some kind of paranoid security guard checking for booby traps. The old keypads seem to have a mind of their own, especially when the weather gets damp. Last time I was there, the gate opened on its own, no one even near it, and I nearly jumped out of my skin. Maybe they should just install a crowbar as backup for those keypads, it would probably be more reliable.

Three times? That's like a whole minute of your life. I get that it's annoying but being stuck overnight is a stretch, unless you left your phone in the car and your car keys in the unit. The keypad at the Centennial location does the same thing when it's humid and I just jab it a few times until it works. @margaret_kelly55 I think the real lesson here is keep a bobby pin or something in your glovebox for emergency button jiggling, not that you need to do a full security sweep every trip.
