Read a report that a facial recognition system in a UK school had a 92% error rate for certain students.
It was a study from a group at the University of Cambridge, and they found the tech failed most often with kids who had darker skin. We're letting this decide who gets into buildings and who gets flagged. How is this not a massive civil rights issue waiting to happen?

That report is worrying, but maybe it shows the tech is still being worked on. These systems get better with more data and updates. The school could use it along with a person checking, not just by itself. It seems like a tool that needs careful rules, not something to throw out right away.

Read a study that said AI catches more false positives than people. @barbaraw47, human backup is key there.

Needs careful rules" is a nice way of saying "please double check everything the robot does." So basically we're paying for a fancy alarm that goes off every time a leaf blows past the camera. Guess it beats having someone who actually knows what a real threat looks like.
