My cousin's new apartment building uses facial recognition for entry and it's making me uncomfortable.

Wondering where that data even goes... like, who has the face scan, how long do they keep it, and what happens if their system gets hacked. It's not just a key, it's your actual face tied to a database somewhere.

My old apartment complex tried that and the scanner kept letting in raccoons from the dumpster.

My cousin's building in Chicago has the same system and I found out the company that runs it stores the data on servers in a country with no privacy laws. That means someone could buy that database and link every face to a name, address, and entry log without any legal protection. It turns a simple apartment key into a permanent tracking device that you can't opt out of.
