My city's new traffic cameras flagged my neighbor's car for a violation that never happened.

The system said he ran a red light, but his dashcam showed a green light and the timestamp was off by 4 minutes. I had to choose between trusting the automated fine or fighting it with our own evidence, so we submitted the video. How many people just pay these fines because they don't have proof?

My cousin in Denver got a ticket from a speed camera last year for doing 50 in a 35. Her car was in the shop that day, so it was impossible. She spent three hours on the phone and had to get a letter from the repair shop just to clear it. Most people would just pay that hundred dollars. It's scary how much we have to trust these systems when they clearly make mistakes.

That's a huge problem with automated enforcement. The system assumes it's always right, but a simple time sync error proves it's not. Most folks probably just pay the fine because fighting it takes time and they lack proof. It really shows we need a better way to challenge these tickets without needing your own camera.

But what about the people who actually DO speed and get caught fair and square?
