I paid $40 for a data removal service that didn't really do anything

Saw an ad for a company that promised to delete my info from data broker sites. Filled out their form, paid the fee, got a confirmation email saying it was done. Checked a few weeks later on a couple of those people search sites... my name and old address were still right there. Feels like I just paid for a false sense of security. Has anyone found a method that actually works, or is this whole industry kind of a scam?

Disagree with the idea that the whole industry is a scam. I used a different service and it worked for me, but it took a few months for the changes to fully show up. Those data broker sites are always scraping and updating, so it's not a one and done thing. You might need to send removal requests more than once. It's a pain, but some companies do the follow-up work. Maybe check if your service offers that before writing it off completely.

Ugh, tell me about it. I sent so many removal requests I think the sites started recognizing my email and sighing.

Ever feel like you're just paying a company to hit refresh on the same old broken page? I tried one of those services too, and my data popped back up like a whack-a-mole. I'd get an email saying "Success! Your data is removed from 50 sites!" and then find my phone number still chilling on Whitepages. It's like paying for a gym membership and then finding out they only have one broken treadmill. I totally get what @jade_singh is saying about the email recognition, I swear I can hear the eye-roll through the screen.
