Just got chewed out by a VP for using the wrong CRM field naming convention
I was setting up a new campaign tracking structure for a Fortune 500 client last Wednesday, right? I used the standard account-based marketing field labels we always use. Turns out their enterprise sales team has their own proprietary naming system for lead source categories that I completely missed. The VP of Enterprise Sales copied my manager on an email that basically said this was costing them visibility into pipeline attribution across six regions. I spent the whole next day remapping every single field and rebuilding the reporting dashboard. What I took away is that in enterprise marketing, the sales team's internal language matters way more than our standard marketing taxonomy. Has anyone else had to deal with sales leadership enforcing their own naming conventions on your marketing automation setup?

Their "proprietary naming system" is just whatever the old CRM admin set up five years ago.

Nah, sales runs the show at that level. Their naming conventions are the language of revenue - you ignore that and you're just building a system nobody in decision-making will use.
