Vent: Why do so many guys ignore the door interlocks on MOD jobs?

I was out at a site last Tuesday in midtown and found a helper had bypassed the hoistway door interlock on a 2017 Otis. The excuse was they were testing calls and didn't want to keep opening the doors. People don't get that bypassing that interlock means the car can move with the door open and someone can fall in. I have seen that exact shortcut cost a guy his job on a 30 floor hotel job last spring. Why mess with safety when it takes 10 extra seconds to do it right? Anyone else run into this on older elevators being modernized?

It's the same mentality as people who disable smoke detectors because burnt toast sets them off, convenience keeps winning over not dying. Everyone thinks they're the exception until something bad actually happens.

My neighbor literally said "the battery died on it so I just took it out, no big deal" about his smoke detector... like dude, that's the whole point of having one. Three months later his slow cooker caught fire while he was at work and his place got smoked out bad. Fire department said if that detector had been working theyd have caught it way earlier. But people just keep doing it because they don't want to deal with the chirping at 2am.
