Tried a new way to check a governor and it bit me
Last week on a 90s Otis traction job, I skipped my usual full visual and just went for the drop test with the tape measure. The tape snagged on a frayed spot I missed, gave a false reading, and I spent three hours chasing a problem that wasn't there. Learned the hard way that no tool replaces a good set of eyes and a flashlight first. Anyone else get burned by trying to shortcut a basic check?

Man, that's a tough lesson. I've been there, rushing a check because you think you know the system. So when your tape snagged, did it give you a reading that was too fast or too slow? I'm trying to picture exactly how that false reading sent you down the wrong path for three hours.

Oh man, the tape totally snagged and gave me a slow reading. I mean, it was off by like a whole inch, which doesn't sound like much but it threw everything off. I spent hours recalibrating the machine, thinking the sensor was fried. Turns out I just had a tiny kink in the tape near the end. Felt like a total idiot when I finally saw it.
