That moment I realized I'd been wiring door locks backwards for months
Been doing elevator service for about 8 years now, and last week on a job in a 12-story office tower someone pointed out my lock wires were swapped on the terminals... turns out I had the common and normally open flipped since day one. The door was still closing but it was causing a half-second delay every time. Anybody else have a setup habit they kept doing wrong without knowing?

Oh man that is brutal but honestly I can see how it happens. I always thought polarity didnt matter on those locks since its just a switch closing a circuit but then I ran into a security system that was freaking out because of exactly this. The delay was driving me nuts for weeks before I traced it back. Now I triple check every time even if I think I know what Im doing.

Polarity didnt matter on those locks" is what a buddy of mine said too. He wired up a whole apartment building's locks and the fire alarm guys had to come back and redo every single one because the delay was messing with their system. Took him a while to live that down with the crew.
