My foreman said to always check the governor rope tension first, and a stuck car in Cincinnati proved him right

We had a call for a car stuck between floors in a 12-story office building. I was ready to start with the motor controller, but my foreman, Dave, stopped me and made me check the governor rope tension. Sure enough, it was way too loose, causing the safety to trip. We adjusted it and had the car moving in 20 minutes. Do you guys always start with the governor, or do you have a different first step for a stuck car?

Dave's rule saved us a ton of time on a hospital job last year. Car was stuck on the 8th floor. Everyone assumed power supply. I checked the governor rope first, found a broken strand. It was just catching enough to sometimes work. That quick look stopped us from chasing ghosts for hours. Always start simple.
