Just finished a job with both Otis and Schindler controllers side by side
Everyone says the new Otis Gen2 stuff is the future, but after working on a retrofit in a Boston office building, the Schindler 3300 system was way easier to troubleshoot. The diagnostic codes on the Schindler screen were plain English, while the Otis unit needed a laptop and their specific software just to read a simple fault log. Has anyone else found one brand's electronics consistently more mechanic-friendly than the other?

Yeah that software lock thing is real. Had the same problem last month. The plain English codes on the Schindler just save so much time.

Man, you hit on something huge that gets ignored. Everyone talks about the tech specs, but nobody asks who actually has to fix it at 2am. That Otis software lock is a choice, it forces you back to them for every little thing. Schindler giving you clear codes on the screen shows they at least thought about the guy with the tools.
