Wasted $200 on a cheap soldering station from an online auction

I figured a $40 station would be fine for light work, but the tip oxidized in under 10 uses and the temp control is a joke. Has anyone else burned cash on bargain tools that just made your job harder?

Man those cheap stations are such a gamble. I got a similar one and the tip literally fell off after like 15 uses because the threads stripped out. What gets me is the temp readings are totally fake too, mine showed 350 but was probably running way hotter and just cooking everything. You're better off finding an old used Hakko or Weller on Facebook Marketplace for the same money, at least they hold up.

I read somewhere that those cheap stations sometimes don't even have a real ground connection, so you can zap sensitive components without knowing it... not worth saving a few bucks if you're working on anything delicate.
