Saw a guy at the co-op last week try to reflow a Xbox with a $20 heat gun, melted the whole CPU socket

Get a proper preheater or at least a hotplate underneath next time. The key is bringing the whole board up to temp slowly, not just blasting one spot with a gun that's way too hot. I've killed a few boards learning that lesson the hard way. A $40 hotplate from Amazon under the board plus a decent rework station will save you way more money than replacing consoles.

Melted the WHOLE CPU socket" - that's brutal but I've seen worse. Buddy of mine tried the same thing with a cracked heat sink and ended up with solder drips all over his motherboard.
