Finally got a stubborn iPhone 12 backlight working with a trick from a Milwaukee repair meetup

I was about to order a new screen, but a tech there said to check the tiny filter caps near the connector with a microscope, and sure enough, one was cracked. Has anyone else found that's a common failure point on those models?

Seriously? That sounds like a total fluke. Most of the time a dead backlight on those is the screen itself, not some tiny cap. You probably just got lucky with that one.

That 2015 MacBook Air I fixed last month had the exact same issue, a blown backlight filter cap on the board.

That filter cap is a known weak spot on the 2012-2017 Air boards. Wyatt_green31 is right, I've seen a bunch of them fail right at that C7702 location. It's a cheap fix if you can do the microsoldering, way better than buying a whole new screen assembly.
