Can we talk about how overpriced some repair shops are for simple stuff?
I stopped by a shop in Austin last week to get a quote on replacing a laptop battery. They wanted $120 for a part I found online for $35 and a 20 minute job. Told the guy I'd do it myself and he got all defensive saying I'd mess up the connectors. I get markup is normal but double the price plus labor feels like a ripoff. Has anyone else run into shops padding prices on dead simple repairs?

Tbh why not just look up a YouTube video and do it yourself? Most repair shops are just counting on people being scared of their own electronics.

Can't believe @the_zara actually trusts YouTube tutorials over trained techs...

A $120 quote for a $35 part is about typical markup for shops that rely on people being scared to open their own laptop.
