A trip to the local recycling center made me think about our trade
I dropped off some old monitors at the county facility on Tuesday. The pile of flat screen TVs and computer towers was huge, maybe 50 units deep. A worker told me they get about a ton of this stuff a week, and most of it is just a single bad capacitor or a blown fuse. It feels like a lot of good boards are getting crushed because people don't know repair is an option. Has anyone tried doing outreach or workshops to cut down on this kind of waste?

Yeah that's a huge problem everywhere. I put up a basic flyer at my local library with a QR code linking to some simple repair guides and common failure signs. Got a few people bringing stuff to the monthly fix-it meetup instead of trashing it. It's not a ton but it feels better than nothing.

Love that idea from @the_jennifer. I mean, my local library still has flyers for missing cats from 2019, so yours actually getting results is pretty solid. Maybe it's just me but that feels like a real win.

My friend tried something similar at her community center last year. She said three people actually showed up with broken toasters and lamps. It made her feel like the effort was worth it.
