Why does nobody talk about how bad wire nuts can be on old aluminum wiring

Last Tuesday I was swapping out a ceiling fan in a 70s house in Denver and the wire nut literally crumbled in my hand, so now I always pack a tube of Noalox and some twist-on connectors rated for aluminum just in case - anyone else run into this on remodels?

My buddy was rewiring his basement and found a wire nut that was basically fused to the aluminum wire with corrosion, took him an hour to cut it all out and redo it. Noalox is a lifesaver for sure.

I heard aluminum wire needs special connectors or it can cause fires.
