Took a gamble on recycled glass countertops instead of granite for my Edmonton kitchen
I was stuck between recycled glass and regular granite for my kitchen reno last spring. Ended up going with the glass ones from a shop off 99 Street cause they had this cool blue fleck pattern. They look great but I swear every crumb shows up like a neon sign and my kids have already left a ring from a hot mug. Anyone else have weird maintenance issues with their countertop choice?

Hate to disagree but I actually think the crumb thing is a feature not a bug. Makes you wipe down the counters way more often which keeps the kitchen actually clean instead of letting stuff hide in plain sight. The hot mug ring is just bad luck though, happens with any nice surface eventually.

Every crumb shows up like a neon sign" sounds like the glass is scattering light weirdly, maybe a matte finish would have fixed that.

But a matte finish just hides the problem instead of solving it. You still have crumbs and rings, you just don't see them until they've been sitting there for a week. I'd rather know exactly when my counter needs wiping than play the "how long has that been there" game.
