Thought I was saving money on insulation until I saw my heating bill

I spent 3 winters in my 1950s bungalow near Whyte Ave wondering why my furnace ran nonstop. Last January I finally crawled into the attic and found 4 inches of blown in from 1980 that was all compressed and useless. Added 12 inches of new stuff myself for about $400 and my February bill dropped by almost 50 bucks. Anyone else put off attic work and regret it later?

Buddy of mine kept putting off getting new windows for like two years. His place was drafty as anything in the winter, heating bill was brutal. Finally did it last fall and his wife said the house actually felt warm for once. Said he wished someone had kicked him in the pants sooner.

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I bought my place back in 2018 and the first winter I thought I was just being a wimp about the cold. Then I noticed warm air actually moving around the window frames when I held my hand near them. Finally went to the hardware store and got some of that foam sealant and weatherstripping tape, maybe spent 60 bucks total. After I sealed everything up the house stopped sounding like a wind tunnel and my bill went down like 30 bucks the next month. Really crazy what a difference it makes when you just stop letting all that heat leak out.
