The day my bathroom reno turned into a waterfall

Last Tuesday I was just trying to replace a sink faucet in my old house near Whyte Ave. I thought I shut the water off under the sink but the valve was so crusted I guess it didn't fully close. I unscrewed the supply line and got a solid spray of ice cold water right in the face. Water was EVERYWHERE on the floor and I was sliding around trying to find the main shut off in the basement. By the time I got it turned off, my entire bathroom floor was soaked and there was a puddle in the hallway. My cat just watched from the doorway like I was an idiot. Has anyone else had a supply line blow on them during a simple swap?

Oh man, reminds me of the time I flooded my kitchen trying to unclog a disposal.

The cat just watching from the doorway is the part that kills me! That's exactly what mine does during my disasters too, just sits there with that look of pure judgment. But seriously, that main shut-off chase in the basement is the worst nightmare. I had a similar thing happen when I was swapping out an old toilet supply line, and the water wouldn't stop because the valve was completely frozen. I was sliding around in my socks, soaking wet, yelling for my roommate to find the water key while the toilet just kept spraying. Your story gives me flashbacks to that cold, wet panic - I'm just glad your cat was there to supervise!
