Spent 4 hours trying to fix a crooked kitchen cabinet door

I installed new cabinets in my Edmonton bungalow last month and one door just would not hang straight. Kept thinking it was the hinge screws or the leveling. Turns out the cabinet box itself was racked by about 3mm from the wall being slightly out of plumb. After shimming the whole box and checking with a 4-foot level, the door lined up in under 20 minutes. Anyone else run into hidden framing issues that made simple jobs take way longer than planned?

Dude, I just read something about this the other day! Apparently a lot of new cabinets get installed on walls that aren't perfectly straight, and people end up spending hours messing with hinges and screws when the real problem is the box. It makes sense though, if the wall is off by even a tiny bit it throws everything else out of whack. Glad you figured it out with the shims, that's a solid move.

Heard a cabinetmaker say shimming the box first saves headaches. Nora nailed it though.

Did you try adjusting the hinges first before pulling the whole box?
