Pro tip: I used to think you could just slap new flooring over old concrete in an Edmonton basement

I was putting down laminate in my Mill Woods basement and skipped the moisture barrier, thinking the slab was dry enough. A year later, the planks started buckling at the edges from the damp. What's the best underlayment you guys have used for our local concrete floors?
