My neighbor just told me his basement flood was from a blocked weeping tile, not his sump pump
We were talking about his big repair job in Mill Woods, and he said the city inspector found the main issue was the outside drain system, which he never even thought to check. It made me wonder how many of us are just looking at the inside stuff and missing the real problem. What's the best way to check your weeping tiles before you start an inside reno?

Yeah, that "outside drain system" part is so easy to overlook until it's too late.

@the_rose has me genuinely shook right now. Wait... the downspout was just dumping straight into the dirt? Like not even a splash block or an extension pipe? That's wild. I assumed everyone at least had those little plastic diverters at the bottom. Guess I've been living in a fantasy world about home maintenance.

Tell me about it. We had a huge backup last spring because the gutter downspout was just dumping water right into the ground next to the foundation. Cost a fortune to fix the basement. It's one of those things you just don't check until you're already ankle deep in a problem.
