My basement floor spalled 6 months after I poured it. Contractor used too much calcium.
Walked down there last week and chunks of concrete are peeling up everywhere. Had a guy test it and he said the mix had way too much calcium chloride for a basement slab in Edmonton. Anyone else get burned by a cheap mix job?

Hold on a second there. I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, but the problem isn't usually too much calcium chloride. In my experience, that stuff is actually more of a surface issue, like a white powder or an ugly discoloration. What you're describing with chunks peeling up sounds way more like a bad mix overall or maybe they poured it when it was too cold and the water froze inside. Your mileage may vary, but I'd bet money you have a bigger problem on your hands than just the calcium. I'd get a second opinion from a different concrete guy before you start looking into legal stuff.

Yo, I've been there before. What fixed it for me was getting a third party inspector to come check the pour before I even talked to anyone else. Ended up being a bad mix and not enough curing time, saved me a ton of headache.
