Can we talk about people skipping the radon test in Edmonton basements?

I see so many reno posts where folks finish a basement without checking levels first, and that's a huge gamble with our local soil. Has anyone actually gotten a high reading and had to install a mitigation system after the fact?

Wait, that's not quite right... it's the uranium in the ground breaking down that causes it, not the soil itself.

Yeah, Blake's right about the uranium. My buddy in Glenora skipped the test to save cash, finished his whole basement with a sweet home theater. Two years later, he got a tester and the reading was over 400 Bq/m3. They had to cut a hole in his brand new ceiling to run the mitigation pipe, it was a huge mess.

But is that level really dangerous for people?
