Took me 5 years to realize I was over-sanding my butt joints

An old timer at the supply house pointed out my sanding block was too fine and I was basically polishing the mud instead of feathering it. Now I use 120 grit and stop the second it feels smooth, no more ghosting on the finish.

Used to think 80 grit was the move. This changed my mind completely.

Bet you anything those old timers are the same guys who can hang a door without a level and it still comes out perfect. Funny how something so basic can mess up your whole finish game for years without anyone saying a word about it.

Got a buddy who spent years sanding everything down to glass before paint, then some old carpenter told him to just hit it with 120 and move on. Said it saved him like two hours per door and the finish looked better than ever.
