Rant: I tried that 'fast set' mud on a ceiling patch and it cracked like crazy

Had a small repair in a bathroom, maybe 2 feet by 3 feet. The guy at the supply house said this new 20-minute compound was the way to go. I did two coats, sanded it smooth, and it looked perfect. Came back the next day and there were three hairline cracks right across the middle. I guess it dried too fast for a bigger area. Anyone have a go-to mud for ceiling patches that actually holds up?

Honestly, hairline cracks aren't the end of the world.

Ruby said "hairline cracks aren't the end of the world" and that's what I keep telling myself about the giant crack in my bathroom mirror that I've been ignoring for six months. I swear every time I walk in there I see it out of the corner of my eye and think a spider is crawling on the wall. It's basically become a permanent part of my morning routine now like "morning sun, morning coffee, morning crack." But honestly if I ever actually fix it I'll probably just mess it up worse anyway, knowing my luck with home repairs. So yeah, hairline cracks might as well be decorative at this point.

Ugh, that's so frustrating when it looks perfect and then cracks.
