Just had a big win dealing with a warped stud situation

Was working on this old house, and the corner stud was seriously bowed out. Instead of forcing it or shimming forever, I cut a relief kerf down the back of the drywall before hanging it. It conformed to the curve perfectly, saved me a ton of time on mudding later. Seriously, try it next time you run into wonky framing.

Yeah, I shave down warped studs before hanging drywall to save time later.

Shaving down the stud is a solid move for sure. One thing I always check first is what's going on that wall later. If it's just a plain wall, your kerf or shave methods are perfect. But if cabinets or heavy shelves are hanging there, I'll sometimes sister in a new straight stud instead, just for the peace of mind on the fastener grip. It really depends on the final load.

Actually, shaving a stud down too much can weaken it for drywall screws too. You only want to take off the high spots, not flatten the whole face.
