Cutting drywall used to take me twice as long before I got a steady hand

I used to measure and cut every piece with a T-square and a utility knife, scoring one side and snapping it. Now I use a drywall router for most cuts, especially around outlets and corners. I picked one up at a supply house in Phoenix about two years ago after watching a crew finish a whole house in half the time. Any of you guys made the switch to a router and stuck with it?

Router all the way now. Got one last year after watching a guy zip through a remodel in Flagstaff. Never going back to scoring and snapping for outlets.

Make sure you've got a good dust collection setup when you use it though. Drywall dust gets everywhere, and a shop vac hooked up to the router makes a world of difference. Also, spend the extra couple bucks on a carbide bit, it'll last way longer than the cheap ones.

Olivia's right about the dust collection, I learned that one the hard way when my shop vac was in the shop and I just went for it anyway. Bit wasn't even that bad but I still managed to coat my entire face and glasses in a fine white powder in like 30 seconds. Carbide bits are definitely worth it, cheap ones dull after like three boxes and then you're just burning through the drywall instead of cutting it.
