Wasted $800 on a fancy new cutterhead that didn't fit my rig

I got all excited last spring and bought a custom cutterhead from a supplier I found online. Spent $800 on it thinking it'd boost my production on the Mississippi River job near Baton Rouge. Got it delivered and the shaft diameter was off by half an inch, wouldn't even bolt up to my ladder. Supplier wouldn't take returns because I had it special ordered. Anyone else get burned buying gear without triple checking the specs first?

Damn that sucks man. Always measure critical stuff yourself before ordering even if the specs look right on paper.

Haven't you ever gotten burned by trusting a spec sheet that was just plain wrong though? I measure stuff too but sometimes you can't, like if you're ordering from a small shop that doesn't answer emails fast. The specs should be the source of truth, you know? Most screwups I've seen come from people eyeballing measurements wrong or mixing up mm vs inches. If a company can't get their published specs right, that's on them not me. I'd rather hold them accountable than feel like I have to double-check every number they put out.
