That $200 hydraulic filter I thought was a waste
Last month I dropped $200 on a high-end hydraulic filter for my dredge, figuring the cheap ones I usually buy were fine. The old filter had been acting up, slowing the pump and making weird noises. I swapped it out just before a big job on a pond near Lake Charles, and the difference was night and day. The pump ran smooth, no cavitation, and I finished the job a full day early. Turns out the cheap filters let tiny grit through that wore down the impeller over time. Now I'm wondering if the extra cost is worth it long-term, or if I just got lucky. Any of you guys go with the pricey filters or stick to the budget ones?

You ever check the wear on your impeller after running cheap filters for a season? That $200 will look cheap compared to replacing a whole pump.
