Suction hose collapse on the Mississippi near Baton Rouge

Was running 14 feet of water off the levee wall last Tuesday when the hose started pulsing like a heartbeat, lost prime twice in under a minute. The liner had delaminated inside and the suction collapsed at the bend, so we shut down and pulled it before it blew a fitting. Anyone else deal with liner failure on reinforced hose, or should I just switch to hard pipe for this stretch?

Pulled a 12 foot section out of the Tensas last fall with the same damn problem, the liner had peeled off like wet cardboard and the hose was trying to swallow itself. Ended up finding a dead gar stuck in the intake screen that had been sucking for three days, so maybe check your strainer before you spend the money on hard pipe.

Heard the same thing from a buddy who runs a pump shop up in Monroe, he said nine times out of ten it's a blockage that caused the collapse, not the hose itself. @blakem13 I think you're right about checking the strainer first, that dead gar story is exactly the kind of thing that makes you want to rip the whole system apart before looking at the obvious. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather spend an hour cleaning a screen than a weekend swapping out hard pipe.
