Spent 4 hours chasing a suction leak that was just a loose gasket on the pump flange
I was losing my mind on a Tuesday job near the marina, swapping hoses and checking valves, only to find a $2 gasket had shifted a quarter inch. Anyone else spend hours on a simple fix that should have taken 10 minutes?

Wait, you're telling me a quarter inch shift on a gasket caused four hours of headache? I've been there too, chasing phantom issues until you want to throw your tools in the water. That little piece of rubber can really mess with your whole day.

Little piece of rubber" is right... My buddy Dave spent an entire Saturday rebuilding his outboard, still had a leak, and it turned out his gasket was just slightly twisted when he dropped it in. He said he sat there staring at the water for like ten minutes before he even touched the tools again. Ended up having to pull the whole lower unit off, dry everything, and start over. Said the worst part was the shop was already closed by then so he couldn't even get a fresh gasket until Monday.
