Just realized a short run pump can save you hours on a shallow dredge
Everyone says you need a long hose for deep cuts, but on a 6 foot depth near Albany last month I switched to a short run setup and cleared the silt in half the time. Has anyone else found this works better on smaller jobs?

That "short run pump saving hours" thing is basically the same reason I stopped peeling apples before baking pies - sometimes the extra step everyone insists on is just wasted effort. We overcomplicate small jobs because we're trained to think big solutions work best.

Zarar67's apple pie thing is a stretch man, comparing fruit prep to pump setups. Swapping hoses isn't that deep, it's just about not dragging extra gear for a tiny job. But hey, if it works for you on those 6 foot cuts, run it.

Get that long hose out of your truck for anything over 10 feet and you'll regret it halfway through the day, trust me. I watched @zarar67's pie analogy fall apart last season when a buddy tried a short run on a 12 foot cut and spent an extra two hours fighting sediment that settled right back down. More hose drags more water, but it keeps the flow steady through the whole dig, which is why the "big solution" guys aren't wrong about deep cuts.
