I overheard a new guy say 'dredging is just vacuuming underwater'

Last week at the shop in Savannah, one of the new hires was bragging that dredging is basically just running a big vacuum cleaner. I almost laughed out loud until I remembered I thought the same thing when I started. He found out real quick when his cutter head got wrapped in a steel cable on his second job. Has anyone else had a greenhorn say something equally ridiculous on site?

Jumped in here to say I had the exact same wake up call man. My first week on a job down in Charleston I told my foreman dredging looked like playing with giant toys compared to real construction. He just smiled and put me on the night shift clearing a clogged impeller by hand in the rain. That pump had pulled up everything from old tires to a rusted car bumper, and I spent three hours untangling that mess with bolt cutters and a pry bar. The new guy will learn fast once he gets a taste of the muck and the pipe burns and the 3am breakdowns. What kind of cable did he hit up there, was it a mooring line or old construction debris?

Doubt it's that deep honestly lol. Dude probably just snagged a stray rope from some kids fishing off the pier and the suits are making it sound like a national crisis.
